Employee trip activity idea: we tried the ancient Egypt escape room "EYES OF HORUS"

Ancient Egypt themed set of the escape room EYES OF HORUS

Looking for employee trip or team-building activity ideas for your company? Escape rooms are a great fit for teamwork. The iTour team went to play "EYES OF HORUS" (掘, "Dig") in Neihu, Taipei, an ancient Egypt themed room that leans toward "analytical puzzle-solving", and here's what we thought.

Storyline

The boss of Pangu Enterprise has been acting suspiciously lately. Using a location tracker, his employees discover he's been in "Egypt" and on a "space station" at the same time, and decide to investigate in secret. The signal leads to an undisclosed Egyptian temple; once inside, the entrance collapses and they're trapped. They must get out within the time limit to return to headquarters without raising suspicion.

What's it like to play?

The time pressure comes from "puzzle-solving speed" rather than the escape itself. Deeper into the temple, the second area appears: a sphinx, murals, skeletons, maps, with puzzles and danger side by side. Every corner of the set relates to the puzzles; everyone racks their brains and turns the place upside down for clues. Each stage links to the next, and only by cracking one do you get the treasure that unlocks the next.

Along the way you also have to crawl through narrow passages, so it tests not just reasoning but stamina: there are quite a few physical challenges, and we came out completely exhausted. The puzzles are cleverly designed, the space is laid out to make you feel you're really there, and teamwork is the key. The iTour team won on the day.

FAQ

Are escape rooms a good fit for an employee trip?

Yes. They force the team to divide tasks, communicate and cover for each other, making them great team-building material; 6–12 people is just right for one department or team per game.

Will colleagues who aren't good at puzzles feel awkward?

A good escape room designs different kinds of stages (observation, logic, physical, searching), so everyone has somewhere to shine. Dividing up the tasks is the key.

Can you add an escape room to our company's itinerary?

Yes. iTour often builds activities like this into employee trips or day-trip itineraries.
